Esther and Jonny got married at Dewsbury Baptist church and then had a garden reception. It was a gorgeous day and the sun shone all day long. Literally! A garden wedding in Yorkshire might not have been their original plan, but it certainly worked out to be an amazing day.
The Ceremony
The ceremony was a church service at Esther’s home church in Dewsbury. During the ceremony, they had several beautiful readings from friends and family. It was such personal service with the minister even giving them a homemade gift.
The Reception
Esther and Jonny originally had a local venue booked, but at the last minute, the venue had to pull out. Esther and Jonny had just a few weeks to find a new available venue on a Saturday in July. Thankfully some family friends offered them their garden, which was wonderful. They decorated it with bunting and fairy lights and added gazebos for the wedding breakfast. It looked absolutely stunning. They hired a local caterer who made a delicious roast dinner for everyone. When Esther and Jonny arrived their university friends had surprised them with an oar arch for them to walk through – a tradition which has happened at all their weddings. It was such a hot day that someone went out for ice cream and a bridesmaid filled up a paddling pool so people could cool down their feet.
The Evening
As the party was in a garden, the couple opted for a silent disco to keep the noise at bay. This was absolutely hilarious to watch and photograph and everyone had a fab time!
The Couple
The couple got in touch with me last year and we had a zoom meeting to chat further. It was very funny when we realised we were all describing being at the same wedding and it turned out that Esther is very close friends with my cousin! It really is a small world.
Why a garden wedding is a great idea
If you or someone you know has a big enough space for a reception, a garden wedding can save lots of money whilst also creating a really intimate day. The advantage of a garden is that it can slowly be set up in the days before the wedding and there is no rush for the pack down either.
