This one was such a massive highlight for me because it was just so them! Mandi and Rob really wanted a day that reflected their personalities and their big family, rather than sticking to a traditional wedding “script.” After looking at a few standard venues, they decided to throw tradition out the window and go for something totally unique.
choosing the world Museum Liverpool
Because Mandi and Rob have a big, wonderful family with lots of children, keeping everyone entertained was top of their priority list. They decided on a World Museum Liverpool wedding and honestly, what a choice! Since the museum isn’t a licensed venue, they actually did the legal bit at Hebden Bridge Town Hall a few weeks before, which meant the celebration day was 100% about the fun.
Getting Ready
The day started at Mandi’s family home on The Wirral. I love it when couples choose to get ready together with their family and friends! The house was buzzing with a vibrant, happy energy that set the tone for the whole day. I also photographed their legal ceremony so I already knew most of the people there which was so special.
Wedding Photographs at The Beach
When we first sat down to chat after their inital enquiry, Mandi mentioned she had always dreamed of beach photographs on her wedding day. By the time we got to the final planning meeting, they thought they’d have to scrap it because of the timings. I knew how much those shots meant to her, though, so we tweaked the schedule to make it work. It was such a special part of the morning and a memory I will always cherish. These photographs are so special because it meant to much to Mandi and Rob. It so happnes that the beach is also my favourite place. We even had a little “dog poo on the dress” incident (classic beach life!) but we got it sorted and it didn’t dampen the mood one bit!
The ceremony
We hopped in a taxi and headed over to the World Museum where guests were already arriving. Mandi and Rob had set up little games for everyone and there was plenty of food and drink to get the party started. Their ceremony was officiated by Mandi’s Dad and they said their vows right under the cast of a massive Allosaurus!
Treasure Hunt!
Instead of sitting around, everyone then headed off for a treasure hunt around the museum galleries. This place is so cool because one of the floors is actually an aquarium! I was basically doing a workout running between the floors to capture all the action, but it was so worth it to see everyone having such a blast.
The Dancing
After some yummy street food and lovely speeches, there was the first dance. Mandi’s best friend Heather sang their first dance song and Mandi couldn’t hold the emotion in. We finished the night with my all time favourite way to celebrate—a ceilidh! The dancefloor was absolutely wild and it was the perfect end to a day that was completely, wonderfully different.
Mandi and Rob, thank you for being absolute legends and letting me photograph your one-of-a-kind day! I will forever remember this day with the fondest memories
