Non-Traditional Wedding Photography in Leeds

Sep 28, 2021

If you’re looking for non-traditional wedding photography in Leeds or beyond, you’ll love this for inspiration.

When I first met Lucy and Justin they were both very clear on what they wanted – to say no to tradition and do their wedding their way. If you’re thinking of sacking off the speeches or avoiding the cake cut, this wedding will be the perfect inspiration for you – a non-traditional non-weddingy wedding.

Getting Ready

The first tradition that this pair avoided was getting ready separately so not to see each other before the ceremony. Instead they had a chilled out morning at home. When I arrived Justin was chilling in front of the TV and Lucy was with her friend/hairdresser in the dining room in her PJs. Honestly, it was just so lovely and chilled. We had sandwiches and brownies and lots of tea. They headed upstairs to get ready and Lucy’s friend arrived to drive them to the ceremony.

Pre-Ceremony Drinks

We arrived at their venue, New Craven Hall,  and headed straight to the bar next door for drinks. Slowly the room filled with their family and friends. We decided to head out and grab the few group shots they wanted before the ceremony. I have had the pleasure of photographine at New Craven Hall before – you can check it out here.

The Ceremony

The couple went inside the venue first to do their final checks with the registrars whilst everyone else chilled outside. When they were ready, the guests then joined them in the ceremony space. There was no walk bride walk down the aisle – in fact there was no aisle!

Food

Lucy & Justin had arranged for a local deli to deliver an amazing spread. There was no fixed seating plan so everyone could choose where they sat.

Speeches

There were no speeches

Cale Cut

There was none

First Dance

Yep, you guessed it, no first dance either.

Advice for planning a non-traditional wedding:

I am a firm believer that your day should represent you. If the thought of speeches fills you with dread, why not miss them out? If you want to wear bright orange and purple striped romper instead of a white dress, go for it! It might raise a few eyebrows, but your wedding day is definitely the one day you can make it all about you.
